Unified Hearts
When we sing. Our hearts beat as one. Yes you read that correctly and no I’m not speaking figuratively.
Have you ever thought or wondered why singing with others brings a sense of unity? I have. I’m not only speaking about singing at Church. I’ve attended concerts where the band pauses during a chorus and the only sound is the people in the audience singing in unison. Looking around I see that everyone in attendance is bonded over one common thing: Music. Complete strangers now have something in common. Something that brings us together. Not just attending a concert- but our hearts beat together.
Literally. Our hearts beat together.
Studies have shown that when people sing together- heart rates are measured and immediately synchronized. Based on the rhythm, pitch, breathing and speed of the song, heart rates respond equally among singers. Hearts are unified.
Pretty cool, right? Check out the link to see the experiment where heartbeats are measured.
Unity can be found easily throughout God’s Word. It’s important. Let’s take it seriously. I love the idea that our unified hearts can be found during worship. It takes physical effort. We’re making a sound together and declaring the Truth of Christ and the Grace he give us.
Psalm 133:1 “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
That is one of our goals at Trace. Unity through empathy, community and love. The next time you sing at Trace, understand that not only is your heart connecting with Heaven- it’s also connecting to the person next to you.
