No Pain, No Gain…Really?

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.”
Isaiah 61:1 NLT
Have you discovered your God given purpose in life? Your passion that shakes you to your core? Well, I have, and it’s not very glamorous (no play on words as my husband often uses the word glamorous to help people remember my name).
Isaiah 61:1 really speaks to my heart cause I believe that this is a big part of my purpose in life. I believe that we are all broken in some way or another, mine just happens to be mental illness. You see, if it wasn’t for all the deep, soul searching pain that I have experienced in my life due to my illness, I would never be at the place I am to minister to those broken like I am. I am called to the broken.
The stigma that comes with mental illness is one of shame and hurt. For those who have a mental illness or know someone who does, If we learned to view it as part of our purpose, maybe it would take on a different meaning – a special power that can help others. You see, I don’t believe we should hide behind our shame and struggles and not let others in. We need to teach others to live empowered lives no matter what battle it is that they face. What battle do you face regularly that can be used to help others much like you?
I know you’ve heard, no pain, no gain pertaining to physical training but let’s also try to view spiritual training the same way. It’s through the trials and sufferings in our life that God really teaches and enables us to be who He wants us to be.
The next time you are pushed to your limit, try to remember that maybe this pain is the purpose in your life that will bring you the greatest gain, despite how unglamorous it may be.
One of the hardest parts of feeling broken, is feeling alone. If you are feeling broken and alone I would love to talk with you.
